Women in Power, Luck of the Irish, and Springtime — The Highlights of March

March brings us not only the change of the seasons (hello springtime, hello fall!), but also many other reasons to celebrate, including the luck of the Irish and women in power. Our communities all around the globe enjoyed some great activities. Read on for the event highlights of this month.

Women in Power

International Women’s Day took place on 8 March and our communities around the globe celebrated in their own unique way.

“Think globally and act locally,” was the message of our Ambassador in Frankfurt to all women around the world. On 8 March, our members made a salute to women with their Women’s Day Party. They enjoyed a great evening of fun and dancing.

Our Hyderabad Out & About Group couldn’t wait to celebrate International Women’s Day and decided to meet a bit earlier. On Saturday, 4 March they raised a glass to appreciate and congratulate the women in their lives.

The ladies in our Gothenburg DinnerNations Group celebrated International Women’s Day with a classic afternoon tea — from canapés and scones to cakes and tarts being washed away with a glass of champagne. From the pictures it looked like quite the (delicious) treat!

Green Makeup and Guinness Beer

St. Patrick’s Day is the celebration of Irish culture — and the opportunity to paint our faces green and drink Guinness beer during the day. In any case, it is an annual highlight for many around the world.

On Friday, 17 March members of the Frankfurt Café & Friends Group had their own St. Patrick’s Day celebration! The evening started with live music, followed by traditional Irish folk punk music. One, or perhaps two, Guinness beers were absolutely necessary for this great evening.

Our Ambassador in Wolfsburg threw a St. Patrick’s Day party! On Friday, 17 March our InterNations members celebrated the Irish holiday, and what better location to do that than at an Irish pub. With their best green hats and accessories, the evening was a whirlwind of fun and excitement.

On Saturday, 18 March our Luxembourg Concerts & Shows Group had the ultimate Irish experience! Expats were able to meet in person and enjoy live music and performances. And all they needed to pull of those Irish dancing skills themselves was just a little bit of courage and maybe a drink or two. Or so we’ve been told …

Hello Springtime!

While some of our members still have to wait for blue skies and pink tulips to blossom, several of our communities decided to leave the cold season behind and headed for some outdoor fun.

Our Bangkok Outdoor Group enjoyed a scenic cycling tour. The 10 km ride took them through lush vegetation, narrow paths, and very small villages. This seems like a great start to a lovely Sunday morning.

Our community in Copenhagen was off to a great start this month. The Copenhagen Changemakers Group came together at the end of February and organized a Spring Charity Dinner. They prepared a meal with vegetables donated by a local supermarket and some additional food donations from the participants. Keep up these great initiatives!

While we’re patiently waiting (or at least trying to) for Spring to fully arrive, our community in Oslo still had some fun in the snow. Did you know about the World Cup in Nordic disciplines? Our Oslo Outdoor Adventures Group got together and cheered the participants on! There was lots of action and excitement on and off the slopes.

If you’re looking forward to Spring celebrations, we have some exciting ones lined up for you.

In Japan, they have an ancient tradition called “hanami”: the custom of viewing cherry blossoms when they’re in full bloom. So, if you’re in Tokyo this month, you must visit the cherry blossom festival! Join the Tokyo Culture Group on Sunday, 26 March.

Or, if you’re new to Tokyo, come to the Newcomers’ Cherry Blossom Picnic at Yoyogi Park on Saturday, 25 March. You just need to bring your own food and drinks. Make sure to join and make some new friends.

Do you live near Kyoto? Then you might enjoy having a picnic and chat while gazing at the famous Kamogawa and cherry flowers along the river. The event takes place on Saturday, April 1.
